New Tools

Since I now cut my own hair I thought it was time to invest in a pair of good cutting shears because the right tools are required to do a great job. In order to achieve a good hair cut without split ends, a scissors designed specifically for cutting hair should be used at all times. Your common household scissors will not do a very good job at cutting your hair.

Since I am not a professional and I will not be cutting a lot of hair I decided not to invest in the most expensive scissors in the beauty supply store. I purchased a pretty economical pair of cutting scissors by the brand Allure. You can see them here.

I really like this pair of scissors because it fits in my hand well and its long tapered blades really help me to get into those short layers at the back of my head.

I see beautiful things in my future with this scissors in my

DIY Hair Experiment

Last night I did a little experimenting with my hair since I thought I was time for a change. This is the first time that I have ever added tracks to my hair on my own. I took my inspiration from one of the famous Rihanna haircuts. I really like how it came out but of course I only thought to document the process after I was done installing the tracks.

To achieve this style I used 8 inch human hair in the colour 1B. Since I didn't want the style to appear too bulky in the front I split the weft of the hair in two using a razor. I installed nine tracks hortizontally starting at the close to my hairline and working my way back towards the centre of my head. A razor was used to shape the hair and to ensure that it blended well with my real hair. I prefer to use a razor because it achieves a softer look without any harsh edges.

Did I mention I am loving this cut?

Neon Obsession

Last summer we were all into the primary colours and that was great but its now time for something new. Thank God!! Right new the newest trend in fashion is neon and I am loving it.

This is not a difficult trend to pull off so there is no need to get scared. In my opinion, the easiest way to pull off this trend is through the use of accessories that will make your outfit pop. However more adventurous types can incorporate more colour into their outfits but just make sure to anchor them with some neutral pieces.

Here are my favourite neon pieces for this season.

Rebecca Minkoff Striped Diamond Tote

Rebecca Minkoff Neon Colourblock Maria

Diane von Furstenberg Neon Orange Harper Laurel Bag

For the DIY types out there here is a great tutorial showing how you can achieve neon shoes from a pair of basic leather sandals.

This is how I would wear neon.

Taming Those Flyaways

Recently, a friend asked me what is the best way to get rid of flyaway hairs that she has at the top of her head. I thought that would make a great blog post because I am sure that we have all experienced this problem at some time.

First, a little information about flyaway hair. Flyaways are actually a sign of cuticle damage. The outer layers of the cuticle are peeling up, exposing the inner cortex. An intact cuticle protects the cortex, however when cuticle damage is present the cortex is more susceptible to static. In order to tame flyaway hair you should use a conditioner or a leave in conditioner after shampooing. The more porous and and damaged your hair is, the drier it will be and the more likely that static charge will build up. Therefore you must ensure that your hair is adequately moisturised at all times.

You can also employ the help of a frizz taming serum. There are several of these products on the market but I prefer L'Oreal Eversleek Frizz Taming Creme Serum.

This silicone free serum does and excellent job of taming flyaways without causing the notorious silicone build up on your hair.

When I use this product I apply it to wet hair that has been shampooed and conditioned and then style as usual.   My hair is not hard or crunchy, neither is it oily or greasy. The directions suggest that you use one to two pumps for your entire head but I only use half a pump since I have a short hair cut.

I hope this helps.

Milani Easybrow Pencil Review

We all know that our eyebrows are like the picture frames of the face, so its extremely important to keep them looking great. In order to do this I fill in my brows with the Milani Easy Brow pencil in Dark Brown.

This pencil is so soft and creamy and is just the right colour for my brows. Also, the spooling brush at the end is also a great addition because it helps to blend the colour so it looks more natural.

Check out my brows below before and after I use the brow pencil.
