Hair shedding, not to be confused with breakage is the loss or fall of hair that has reached the end of its growing cycle. The shed hair naturally falls from the scalp with its root attached. Ladies, if the loss hair does not possess a white bulb at the end it is not a shed hair but a broken one and that is a totally different process. Don't be alarmed if you see a few shed hairs in your brushes or combs daily since it is normal to lose about 50-100 hairs every day. However, if your hair is coming out in clumps every time you run your hands through it that is a sign that you need to visit your medical practitioner. Better be safe than sorry.
If you notice an increase in the number of shed hairs in your combs and brushes, it may be time to take a long, hard look at your lifestyle. I know most of us live rather high stress lifestyles and we all have several commitments that cause us to be simply running on fumes however, it must be noted that it has been proven that poor diet, lack of exercise and stress can all lead to increases in hair shedding.
How to Combat Excessive Hair Shedding
There are several ways by which you can combat excessive hair shedding. These include
- Relaxing- the more you are stressed the more you will shed
- Eat a Balanced Diet
- Aloe Vera Juice (AVJ) spritz
- Garlic Pills
- Garlic Shampoo
- Carrot Oil
I have personally experienced excessive shedding and I know it can be a rather scary process. A few months ago I swore that by the end of the month I would have no hair on my head and be completely bald due to shedding. I conducted some research and I realised that I needed to switch up my routine. However, the process was purely trial and error until I found what worked for me. I have personally tried each one of the above remedies and I have found that a combination of Queen Helene Garlic Shampoo and my Aloe Vera juice spritz works best for me.
If you are experiencing excessive shedding you should try the above mentioned remedies to see which one slows down your shedding. Just be aware that you can not totally eliminate shedding since it is a part of the hair growth cycle.
Hugs,
Steph
